The Skill Changed My Life
The Southern Area Development Project (KP-SADP) builds capacity of youth in different trades, so that they become productive members of society. This was implemented across three districts (DIKhan, Tank and Lakki Marwat) where 115 youths were trained. The training covered five trades (motorcycle mechanic, AC & refrigerator repair, mobile repair, UPS making and repair and tailoring). Relevant tool kits were also distributed among the youth to empower them to earn a living through their newly-acquired skills.
Muhammad Riaz was one of those who benefitted from skills training. He narrates his story “I was born in a poor family in village Ghrbi Mandra Kalan, Union Council (UC) Dhap Shumali, in D.I.Khan. Due to financial constraints I left my studies and started helping my father in the farm. My family earns from farming but this was not sufficient for us.
I always had an interest in cell phone repair but the professional skill I learned in the six-month training enabled me to start my own business in the village. Now I earn sufficient money and share the burden of my father. I have found new meaning in my life.”
This skill has changed my life and has earned a lot of respect in the local community. The increase of mobile phone usage has made my business flourish. Now I am in a better position to support my brothers and sisters and bear their school expenses.”
